You’ll also want to get some heavy-duty shelves—or build new ones—for storing blankets and other bedding essentials: a good nightstand will make it easy to grab what you need without having to dig around on the floor and an easy way to access your bedside table is essential.
Upgrade Your Fabrics and Upholstery
Think about using a sophisticated fabric or rich texture for a unique look that adds extra flavor and effect to your furniture. If you can’t find the type of upholstery you like in local shops, you can opt to choose furniture and sofas online. It’s critical to have to use the right fabric if you want the entire room to go together. Use fabrics in complementary shades like brushed denim, denim, or even a neutral color palette for a more understated look that goes with any style aesthetic you’re after (casual chic, elegant, etc.).

Or combine two patterns to make a design that’s uniquely yours (think: subway tile and toile). As long as there’s some kind of repetition—whether in scale, value, or shape—it’s possible to create a casual but stylish home that feels intentional rather than thrown together by someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing when it comes to decorating or DIYing their space (it happens to us all).
