Can’t Sleep? Take a Nice Shower

Woman having a trouble sleeping

Many people swear by the effectiveness of warm showers when it comes to inducing sleep. There is also a strong reason doctors, sleep specialists and some experts recommend showering to be part of your bedtime habits.

Showering makes your body fresh. It helps you get rid of dirt that will make you feel comfortable when you lie down the bed. But if you look into the activity much deeper, you will realize that the premise of shower’s sleep benefits is actually well founded.

If you time your shower right, there is a great chance that you will fall asleep faster. The temperature plays an important role in regulating circadian rhythm, which tells the body when to feel sleepy or alert. Cooling down is a signal that one’s body is supposed to go to sleep. Showering earlier in the evening gives the body a chance to cool off, which ultimately triggers sleep.

Now that you have an idea that showering can help you sleep faster, here are four tips to maximize your shower time.

Tip #1: Keep the water warm

You are supposed to take warm showers, so you must make sure that you have hot or warm water at your disposal. If not, you should buy yourself a functioning heater. You can do it much easier, as many companies offer quality water heaters in Orem. If it is not possible at the moment, you may boil a cauldron of water and mix it with regular tap water in your tub. A bath in the tub makes a good alternative.

Tip #2: Use essential oils

Essential oil bottlesYou are taking a shower to relax. So why don’t you take it a little further with the help of essential oils? You can use shampoos and soaps that have oil components and relaxing scents. But if you want to keep things simple, you can simply light a scented candle just before showering. Make sure that it is safely and securely placed in your bathroom.

Tip #3: Meditate and clear your thoughts

There are such things as shower thoughts, which are often brought about by serious and pensive thinking while taking a bath. During your warm showers, you can take the time to meditate and contemplate on the things that happened during the day.

You may also use this time to plan your things and schedule tomorrow. What is good about it is that you are relaxed while you are meditating. Think happy and optimistic thoughts as a sprinkle.

Tip #4: Keep your room cool

Once you step out of the bathroom, wipe yourself carefully and feel the warmth on your skin. However, ensure that your room is properly cooled down (but not too cold). When your room has the right temperature, your body will find it much easier to cool down.

If you have trouble sleeping, you may want to try showering at night. But as mentioned, do not do it right before bedtime. Do it a little earlier so that your body will have a chance to cool down, which in turn, will trigger sleepy feelings.
